Well it might be that they know many of their customers are NOT into cars that "display their assholes".

I think the E39 is great with the clean lines at the rear. Much prefer the looks of the 540 to the M5.

Stealth is the idea - now if they could just get it so all the speed and power were there, without any exhaust noise, then that would be full stealth. ;-)

Actually I think it is also for clean air dymnamics, and to avoid having the exhaust blowing directly against your legs when you go to the trunk - I used to hate that on my old E28.
