Donut holders? What model year will they be available? Mmmmm.... Donuts!

But seriously, do we really want BMW or any car manufacturer to decide what we should or shouldn't do in our cars? If they morally believe it's a crime to drink coffee in our cars, they shouldn't have a crappy cup holder at all, just leave it out. I prefer to make that decision myself, I only have coffee in the car on long trips, easy straight roads, no speeding.

Your other examples were good, but what about a stereo, you left that off. Stereos are known to distract drivers, and for the people that crank them up to max, it can prevent them from hearing horns honking or emergency vehicles. Perhaps BMW should take the lead and delete stereos from their cars, or at least have volume limiters.

I'm sure all they care about is my safety, that's why my car is electronically limited to 155 mph.

To me this is just goofy, they sell us a 155mph car, but put in crappy cup holders so we're not distracted by hot coffee while driving 155mph with the DSP stereo cranked to MAX? Huh?

That will keep the coffee in your cupholder warm also.. HaHaHa...

No, but seriously companies like BMW and Mercedes resisted putting cupholders in their cars for several years despite the fact U.S. customers complained.. Now, let's see, a/c, heated mirrors, interior lights doesn't distract a driver on the highway now does it?? Rather it enhances the driving experience on hot, humid, wet weather, with the defrosters on, leather seats is aegligable option, and Europeans order them even on very expensive S-class cars, and doesn't distract the driver.. Coffee and beverages should be drunk during meals, or during breaks, not driving a two-ton automobile along the highway.. Why don't they soon install a donut holder too while they're at it??? I do not qualify cupholders as creature comforts, rather it encourages drivers to do something they should'nt be doing while driving.. Ditto car phones..

You wouldn't be too thrilled to get rammed in the rear of your nice little car as a result of a silly motorist spilling a cup of coffee on his laps, or someone chatting away on the phone with one hand on the wheel now would you??

So I expect you've pulled out the A/C, stereo, heater, heated seats/mirrors/etc, phone, UGDO, interior lights, and every other item not needed for "serious driving". And, of course, you ordered your car with cloth seats since leather is not something a serious driver should own. How's the rollcage? You do have one, don't you??

Give me a break! All cars should have basic creature comforts regardless of their intended audience. BMW made a stupid, and easily correctable, mistake by ignoring an obvious need of (at least) the US market.

Bill

BMW's are umm for people who take their driving more seriously...

Anyone tried the cupholder in their 5-series from
www.drinkholders.com? Do they work? My cupholder just won't hold anything. Thanks for any input.
