I agree! I think windshields are for amateurs. I busted mine out, as it reduced my visibility of the road. It also keeps me from fumbling around for the wipers when I should be driving in a very very serious manner.
Without the windshield, I'm a very serious driver. I mean serious, seriously!
Sure, I get a few concussions from errant birds or lost wheels, but otherwise that windshield is a handicap to serious driving.
Also, it amazingly helps the cupholder problem. I just set my coffee on the hood to keep it warm.
So I expect you've pulled out the A/C, stereo, heater, heated seats/mirrors/etc, phone, UGDO, interior lights, and every other item not needed for "serious driving". And, of course, you ordered your car with cloth seats since leather is not something a serious driver should own. How's the rollcage? You do have one, don't you??
Give me a break! All cars should have basic creature comforts regardless of their intended audience. BMW made a stupid, and easily correctable, mistake by ignoring an obvious need of (at least) the US market.

BMW's are umm for people who take their driving more seriously...
Anyone tried the cupholder in their 5-series from
www.drinkholders.com? Do they work? My cupholder just won't hold anything. Thanks for any input.
To take a different perspective, I think it's a joke that for $50k the headlights can't turn themselves on when it's dark outside. The only argument against cupholders in my E39 is the fact that they're a joke, and my daughter's already broken one of the back ones. It's an obvious example of either a refit, poor engineering, or both.
I don't think anyone wants to get into a comparative discussion of driving habits of Americans vs. Europeans. Then again...
