some service managers LOVE saying "it'll void your warranty" regardless of the modification that one proposes doing to their car. It seems like some service managers are eager to hold such a daunting demise over anyone that tempts them to power-trip.

Read the fine print on your factory warranty and on the chip manufacturer's warranty. That's the only advice I have. Good luck,

Volvo tried to invalidate my warranty when I asked for a remote radar detector ... I've found BMW to be far less anal when I've had similar questions, but I think it's up to the individual dealer (and perhaps time of day, weather, sports scores, etc).
