I hesitate to tell you to try this, in case yours are different, but on my 2000 528i if you force the blades past this restriction they move slightly farthur upward and lock in that position. You can then clean under them fairly easily. They don't go straight up like on other cars, though. A gentle push drops them back down again.

OK - went out to wash the windshield - pretty basic, huh? I realized that, unlike my 328i and M3, the windshield wipers only lift about an inch before they hit some sort of stop. I did RTM - no mention of it. =>So how do I wash the windshield area under the wiper blades if I can't lift the wipers.

TIA - still a 5-series newbie.
