Forgive me but it seems humorous that you are agonizing so much. Seems it's your Dad's purchase decision, not yours - that is, of course, unless he's seeking advice from you. What would I do? I would be grateful that someone was "giving" me a car.

Is the S70 one of those new Volvo's that run in the high $30's? Not a bad first car. Strange. I thought I was lucky when I got a Civic as my first car.
