Believe it or not, most people will end up scratching the surface of the car more by washing/drying! Any towel, chamois, or I don't care what you have, or how soft it is, will scratch your car's surface when you drag it along the paint. Of course these won't be huge scratches, but fine ones that are visible only when you look very closely under direct sunlight.

My suggestion, which might sound too much for some, is to get a blower from home depot or a hardware store and dry your car using the blower. No contact - all good.
