i respect your knowledge so I am going to ask 2 questions:
a. this armrest: do you recommend it for the e39?
b. is there a way to get cell phones other than the bmw version of the startac to work with the bmw 5 series?
I like the startac, I already have one and don't want to buy another with a different phone number.
Any advice?
Several months back, I have heard some people on this board mention something about an accessory folding padded armrest with storage. I have a few questions about this armrest.
1. Can the BMW cellular phone, better
cupholders or both fit in this armrest?
NO - flip up module will not accomodate the phone cradle due to wiring and hinge issues.
The inside storage space is not great - just a small plastic compartment (there is not a lot of space below the armrest due to the presence of the air duct, rear cupholders and control module for air bags - all below the armrest.
2. If the BMW cellular phone can fit, is installation "fast and easy with maximum reliability" like it says in the accessories guide?
Does not fit
3. Can you get it trimmed in the exact
same Montana leather as on the seats?
Arm rest is available in all materials and colours to match your interior.
4. If you can get it trimmed in Montana leather,
can you get it in matching colors? In the case of
the 5 Series, the colors are black, grey or sand.
See above
5. Is installation of the armrest
itself simple or complex?
Quite easy - about 10-15 minutes.
6. How much does this armrest cost?
Can't remember - seems to me it is between $2-300 US.
If anyone on this board knows the
answers to these questions, please
reply to this message? Thank you.
BTW, I saw a picture of a Euro E38 7 Series
with this armrest and have heard about it
on this board a few times (some have even
purchased it I think) so I know it exists.
The E38 armrests are different.
The on for the E39 with sliding/folding top does not have any storage capability on the top - just a flat armrest that lifts up at the front to expose the interior storage box.
Cheers
