jim,

I respect your knowledge so I am going to ask 2 questions:

a. this armrest: do you recommend it for the e39?
b. is there a way to get cell phones other than the bmw version of the startac to work with the bmw 5 series?

I like the startac, I already have one and don't want to buy another with a different phone number.

Any advice?

I would have got this armrest except I have the built in phone. I ordered the folding plate as an experiment to see if I could modify it to accomodate the phone wiring - but it would have been quite a butcher job so I passed.

But without the phone I would want it - "any" additional storage would be welcome.

I don't have any experience with other cell phones. Due to the propriatary software, and the fact that the phone has to communicate digitally with the MID, Instrument cluster, audio system I doubt you can get it integrated.

But it may be possible to get you service & number transferred to the BMW car phone (does mean your other is inactive)

A question to BMW NA is always worth a shot.

Cheers
Jim Cash
