Need instructions on removing the engine cover on my 540i.


If you are referring to the large plastic cover over the engine it is actually rather obvious.

Those 4 push buttons are just that - push buttons.

Push down and they release - then lift cover off.

Make sure none of the 4 round rubber rings fall off those connecting pins underneath.

Also the rubber moulding strips often come off the side - replace before re-installing - then just push down hard to have the pins catch again.

If you mean the covers on top of the valve covers (covering the coils and plugs) you have to pop off those 4 square plastic caps (careful to catch them or they fall to the underpan).
Then remove the bolts and those covers lift off.
