I was concerned about coming out of my M3 with the great steering and getting the 540i. Well after a nice 3-hr drive to Stowe, VT last weekend, I'd like to say that anyone interested in the 540i but concerned about the recirculating ball steering, vs. the rack & pinion, should really go drive one. I found the car a real joy to drive. I don't sense the "numb-on-center" feel that some talk. I must say, however, that I never pushed my M3 extremely hard and probably won't with the 540i either. So for my type of driving, I find the 540i steering much more than adequate. Not disappointed at all. It's really smooth but you still get good road feel. JUST MO.
