I have a K40 in a '97 540ia and a V1 in a '00 540ia so I can make a direct comparison. The V1 is superior in performace, both time of detection of signal and lack of false alarms (on highway). The K40 is priced higher and is superior in terms of aesthetics. You'll have to decide what's more important.
