Anybody know what kind of weight synthetic that BMW uses in '00 540i/6? I have quart of 5W-40 synthetic I bought several months ago and was wondering if it would be OK to top off with it, if/when I need to. Did they change weight recently? Is 5W-40 still available?

The only weight currently available in the BMW synthetic sold in Canada (the new supplier is Castrol) is 5w30.

You will have no problem topping it with 5w40.
