Consumer Reports did a study on automotive wax a couple of months ago. Their findings were that wax only lasted a couple of months at best. Buy a wax that also has good cleaning ability and you will not need to remove any old.

A cleaner-wax dosen't do either job well. And it basically covers some of the dirt with wax.

Best to use a separae cleaner - which removes old wax and other contaminants from the surface, then use a good pure carnuba wax.

Some people also use a middle step - a glaze - but not necessary until your surface starts to show some hazing or swirrl marks.
