I have an 00 540i and you can really tell the difference between the V8 and 6 cylinder (I've only driven the 528i though). Basing my judgements on the 528, it has enough power - but not the excessive power of a 540. I wouldn't say the 528 is underpowered, but not overpowered either. The 530 has what, like 30 more hp than that of the 528? So I'd assume it be more powerful. I guess it depends what you want. And about deals on 00 540's, my dealer had my 540 sitting on the lot for a while since there's not a big market for BMW's in Vegas really. So I got a good lease. Hope this helps...
