Nonetheless, Chuck had it nailed dispite my description. I adjusted the center vent control fromm all the way cold to one dot blue and one dot red (half way) and the problem was gone.
Thanks to you both (chuck and Cash) for your thoughts. This type of discussion is what makes this message board so great (and addictive).
Griff
I guess there is a misunderstanding what his complaint/question is. He says that he was getting cold air out of his dash on a cold day when, I would guess, he wouldn't normally want that. This would happen if the dash vent was set to cold, yet he was seeking heat from his heater (low) and defrost (high). The only reason I know this is that it has happened to me.
I'm glad to hear that BMW finally changed the back vent to add heat. Thanks for the correction.
I think your intrepretation is probably correct. I thought he was complaining about the heat form the other vents - mainly because I have seen others complain about that when the A/C is on.
Have to change thinking no that cooler times are setting in.
Jim Cash
You had me pretty worried Jim. I had to read Griffin's message at least 20 times before I made a post that was in potential conflict with Mr. Jim Cash.
We all appreciate your technical advice since you seem to be the only real E39 Service Manual available. Your correction on the rear vent change in '99 is a good example.
