mission accomplished - oil changed (archive)

Changed the oil in my 99' 540iA for the first time
this afternoon. I bought the car back in May with
17k miles on it. The oil had been changed previously
at 16300, at least that was what the computer at the
BMW dealership said. To be on the safe side and to
get the knack of it I decided to change it well before the next scheduled service. It was fairly easy. I did not need to get the car up higher to do it. The oil
plug is fairly close to the front of the car so I
just undid the flap and reached under with by right
arm. The only difficulty I ran into was when I
accidently dropped the oil plug when I was leaning over
the engine. It fell down right under the air filter
housing and it took me over an hour to find. Thought
I was going to have to go buy a new one in the morning.
Anyway, shes got 8 qts. of clean synthetic oil and a
new filter. What more could a car ask.
