My wife, son and I just got back from a great, sun soaked week in MAUI. Funny thing, during the week I just saw 3 bimmers (one E39, one E46 and one Z3) and we did a fair amount of driving around the island. It was the first time I didn't mind driving a rental car (2000 Chevy Blazer.) Didn't mind getting the sand and sea water in a rental. Maui is probably one of the few places I wouldn't want a bimmer (oK maybe an x5.) No place to run it like it should be driven. Maybe on a free stretch of the HANA higway! I wanna go back!!!

I spent time there this year driving a new
Maxima 2000, filled it with sand and water also, the road to Hana was fun for a short time, gets a little tight on the bridges, (almost left part of the car on one bridge) There is a couple places where you can open the throttle, like going up to the High country and also to Kihe, thru the sugar cane bypass. but not very long.Im glad I had the Maxima, because it sure made me glad I bought a BMW, what a tin can that Maxima is! a buddy had a 99 maxima and he could out accelerate the 2000, why I dont know, but I would never buy a rental car from Maui!I heard from a friend the closed road from Hana was easyer then taking the highway back. she did it in her rental car. Hope to make it back soon also.
Pat
