Thanks for the input guys.

As you noticed it seems to be the 97's only.

I do not know why this is, but will forward this to the BMW tech rep who worked on this issue for my car.

He had not seen it before (not something most owners would notice - especially in the small Canadian market)

It is caused by a backfeed from the DME (lamp goes out when DME disconnected).

They changed my DME but no change - so I just wanted to see if there were any other instances.


I am 99.9% sure this will not affect operation. The reason there is a link between the low fuel lamp and the DME is so that the DME knows when you are in the low fuel situation. At that time is it not uncommon to have some dips in fuel pressure, which the engine will pick up as running lean and try to compensate for - but they do not want to do that compensation when there is the known espectation of low presssure due to low fuel levels.

Bsically when you have the low fuel lamp on the DME cancels some of its diagnostics.

If I do get any significantly different feedback I will let you know.
