Would the PDC tell you how close you were in front to a cement wheel stopper that you see in some parking lots?

I can see that with the sports package and the resulting lowering of the car, that if the cement stopper were too high, it could hit the bumper. Ouch.

Can you shut it off?

I find the syatem on the rear of my car to be very accurate. Goes to a solid tone at 6 inches, and then you can guage the next 2-3 inches to stop just shy of hitting the wall.

But your question about the front for low parking curbs is the one that we all want to know about.

It depends on the height and I think they are on the centre bumper - too high when you get close to a parking curb.

I asked that qusetion on the E38 board - and got the same answer for the front - too high for judging close distances to low curbs.

If it is the sam on the new E39 then I think it is mostly a waste of good technology. The only reaosn you need it up front is for parking curbs - unless off course you can't judge distances at the front corners of your car (which is scarey).

I understand it can be turned off with a botton on the dash (when you get the version that has the fronts as well).

The rear automatically turn off under special conditions (like after you hav reversed for 164 feet or exceeded a certain speed).

Cheers
