If performance is what you're after than I would say the AMG. I buddy of mine used to be a AMG tuner the sky the limit on performance. This is partially because you're not talking about a production car. The M5 is a factory production car there's going to be a difference on performance.

If its comfort and style I'd say the M5. Factory cars are designed to have a broad appeal. Ride, is less kidney busting. Better road feel. Not a lot of under/oversteer. BMW M's have(in my opinion) have great road feel. Not always the fastest but most fun to drive.
