When I turn on my parking lights, there is a brief whirring noise which sounds like an electric motor or a pump cycling. It lasts for about 1/2 second and then stops. If I turn the parking lights off and then back on, the noise is repeated.

Does anyone know what this is?

I forgot to mention, my car is a 2000 540i 6-speed. Sorry.
