When I press the REST button nothing happens. Is there a setup step you must do?

the "REST" function works when:
1. outside temp is below +16C
2. car is warmed up.
3. your engine hasn't been shut off for over 30min.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works, at least on my 97 e39. Best way to check is of course go back to your manual.
