I am thinking of getting my wife an S60 when they come out. I'd consider a 325i but 1) I'm the bimmer guy and she would like an easier car to drive. I find Volvo's looser and more apporachable than BMWs. 2) I'm the bimmer guy and I'll be jealous of her having my brand. THoughts?

Volvo vs BMW...Hmmmmm...I drove a 1987 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon for 11 years. I got a 97 540iA in May 2000, and gave the Volvo to my wife. The 760T with 340K kms was definitely "looser" than the 540 with 55k kms!

I drove some newer Volvos before buying the 540....2000 V70 T5 AWD & 2001 V70 T5. Not sure what the S60 will be like relative to the V70s, but my wife had a preference for the Volvos for reasons that don't include the attributes such as handling and acceleration that dominate this board. Mostly those traditional Volvo attributes such as versatility, comfort & safety....And she always thought of me as "a Volvo guy". Check out the Edmunds fora regarding Volvos...lots of negative reliability comments for the newer models....

I'm extremely happy with the 540, and now feel that going "back" to a Volvo is definitely "going backwards". I think I need to get a 540 Touring to replace the carrying capacity of the Volvo wagon though....

I suggest that your wife try the S60 & the other options she is considering, and then she can decide for herself. Whatever she decides on should provide you with some driving variety, assuming she will allow you to drive her car!
