I went to BMW one day with my '98 540iA because I was hearing a knocking noise from the engine at idle in gear.

They isolated the noise to cyl bank 5-8 and is described in tech bulletin 11 06 97. This bulletin advises this noise does not compromise the reliability of continuous engine operation

Has anyone encountered the same problem and is it worth getting fixed?
