First of all the transmission is not the entire performance of the car. Maybe you need to drive one to see for yourself. If you don't want the BMW, why do you want some one to "convince" you to buy the car????? I can speak from experience about GM. I agree with you that GM makes crap. I had to sue them (upon their request!) for a new vehicle that had 38 pages of warranty work in the first 6 months of ownership, including the day I drove it off the lot. I obviously researched the BMW enough to know that they are NOT the same product. I certainly DID NOT purchase my 530 expecting the same quality CRAP that I received from GM. I would suggest that you research the BMW for yourself and decide for yourself. Don't categorize the entire BMW line simply because you discovered GM (Europe) make the transmission in a car you may have been considering. You may be surprised. The steptronic transmission is the ONLY other transmission I have found that shifts any where as smooth as the Lexus I have been comparing all others against.

GM transmissions in the BMW. I am glad I found this board. I have learned so much about the car that I am ('er was) planning to purchase. I am absolutely shocked that a car of this caliber and price has a transmission (vital piece of hardware) built by one of the worst designers/builders of automobiles. GM does not make a single car that is even close to what BMW claims it offers its customers. I can't seem to bring myself to spend $45,000 on a BMW and get a GM at its core. PLEASE SOMEONE CONVINCE ME THAT A BMW WITH A GM TRANSMISSION IS OKAY. My concern is if GM can build a worldclass transmission why do they not put it in their own vehicles. HELP HELP HELP!! I have 50 grand warming up in the bullpen!!
