Actually, transmissions are about the only thing that GM does well from what I have read and heard from mechanics. In fact, I have also read that the Bimmers with GM transmissions are the more reliable than the Bimmer made transmissions. Does anyone know who makes the recalled transmissions on the 540?

GM transmissions in the BMW. I am glad I found this board. I have learned so much about the car that I am ('er was) planning to purchase. I am absolutely shocked that a car of this caliber and price has a transmission (vital piece of hardware) built by one of the worst designers/builders of automobiles. GM does not make a single car that is even close to what BMW claims it offers its customers. I can't seem to bring myself to spend $45,000 on a BMW and get a GM at its core. PLEASE SOMEONE CONVINCE ME THAT A BMW WITH A GM TRANSMISSION IS OKAY. My concern is if GM can build a worldclass transmission why do they not put it in their own vehicles. HELP HELP HELP!! I have 50 grand warming up in the bullpen!!
