M5 wheel clearance issues on 540i (archive)

I understand that the 18" M5 wheels with 275/35-18 tires have an interference problem in an E39 540i unless you roll the fender lips and replace the fender liners with M5 parts.

Has anyone tried installing 255/35-18 tires on the rear and 235/40-18 tires on the front using 18" M5 wheels? Do you still need to roll the 540i's rear fender lip? Or does this fit without any modifications?

Thanks!
