This might be OT, but I was just wondering if any person has resisted paying luxury tax on the basis that it limits freedom of speech. Im not a lawyer so I may sound stupid, ..Is it not my right to express myself through buying an "expensive car" and does not imposing a tax on only certain items (Ex. a car labled a "luxury item")limit one's freedom of expression?
a hypothetical situation..im not rich but i wish to own a "luxury car" for the needs of my own personal expression (i wanna LOOK rich). Enlighten me someone...
The government taxes all kinds of things because they can..the salary we earn, the gas, money we earn on investments (do not even get me started on that one), heck..they even tax you when you die and want taxes on money you already paid taxes on. They do it because they can...not because it makes sense. It is not because they need the money either, but instead because the more money they get they can think of new ways to spend even more. Too bad they do not have to run in like a business.
