If money is not an issue, sure, a 540 is nice but I was trying to limit my spending. I looked at a lot of cars before I got this one. Lincoln LS, MB C240 and the 3 series were my initial choices. I think the LS is a nice looking car, might be because it looks a little like a BMW, but not too sure about its reliability. I test drove the 323 first and really like how it handles and the sound of the engine. I then test drove the C-class C240. If I did not test drive the 3 series first, I might have bought the C-class that day but since I drove the 3 series, I felt that the C-class is just not fun to drive. It is not lively. It is a very nice car but not for me. Besides, the MB dealer was a snob, ending our phone conversation with "you are just not ready for a MB". I went back and look at the 3 again but this time, the dealer pointed me to a 525. Man, love at first sight. I think within the BMW product line, this car has the most bang for the buck. It is a quick car (not fast but quick enough for me), it is spacious, and luxurious. All for about the same money as a 325 sports wagon that I was planning on buying. The other thing that attracted me to this car is the headlight. Funky idea but it looks cool. Besides, the dealer was very patience with me and treated me really well. I must have gone to the dealer ship 4 times and spend an average of about 1.5 hours each time just talking about the car before I signed on the dotted line. He was very pleasant and helpful all 4 times.
Sure, there are others out there that are as nice as BMW, Lexus is one but I just can't get over the fact that some Lexus model are just plain Toyota (GS and the IS) in other countries so I'll end up paying a premium for a Toyota?? I don't think so.
This will be my first BMW and I sure am excited about it.
