In most ways this is true for me, except that I wish it had the body integrity of a lesser car, like my VW Jetta. The rattles drive me crazy.

Everything is a trade-off, of course. I suppose the trade-off with the E39 is getting to know epoxies and glues very well.

Frankly Gary there is no excuse that BMW does not take care of these things. They can put out cars that do not have these squeaks and rattles just like the other manufacturers but they don't have to because we buy them anyway. Kind of silly...like the lame cup holders, a NAV system that is at least two years behind the other manufacturers, adequate but certainly not excellent sound systems, and electronics that act up. They seem to have the road feel and performance specs nailed for sporty driving right along with the new 911's. Maybe they address these other issues soon. If Lexus or Honda evers gets the road feel and performance issues taken care of BMW will clean up their act on these items.

Untill then we can look at them as features! Part of the experience that we all seem to enjoy.
