If you're using baseball bat or pipe becarefull!!!

There is big chance you will crack the paint and when you look at your car from the side the fender is kinda wavvy.. You have to put equal amount of pressure on the bat/pipe.

Some body shop heat the area around fender lip to soften the paint a little..so the paint won't crack.
I know on some car they even grind the fender lip.

IMO bring the car to bodyshop. Try to find different bodyshop. It is not worth to mess the e39 body. Plus the metal is really hard to fold (not like civic which is very easy to bend)
