With another on the way for early next year. For phones to work within the BMW computer system they have to be programmed with BMW software. Only BMW can authorize this, and they have only authorized Motorola to program phones that BMW dealerships sell. Otherwise, your phone will just shut itself off or lock up the system if you attempt to use it without the software.
Current phones offered;
Startac -CDMA - single mode
Startac -TDMA - single mode
Startac -TDMA - Dual mode (Att One Rate)
Coming model
Timeport - Tri mode (Sprint)

Yesterday was a frustrating day for me at the dealership. Had two missions, one to get the small plastic strip to replace the front plate bracket on my 530 and two to see what could be done with my existing Star Tac phone. (I walked away with no answers on either!)

I have a Star Tac and just wanted the cradle for it. They claim that my Star Tac will not work with the BMW cradle/speakers/mic/display/steering wheel. I have to pay 1k to buy their old ANALOG phone.

I find this really hard to beleive, I think that the the i/o on my star tac is the same as their star tac they just want to sell a really expensive full set. The question is anyone used a non BMW Star Tac in the car? Does it work? If not can you get a BMW star Tac that is digital? Any phone help/solution would be appreciated.
