Definitely needs to be the BMW version. The TDMA version of this phone is the Motorola 7790i btw. My original 7790 didn't interface when I tried it; the MID just stuck in the initial updating phone book stage, and the phone powered off.

Also, For those of you looking for voice recognition built into the phone system be aware that the new digital harness installed in BMW's after 01/2000 requires the addition of the BMW voice recognition system to activate voice for the phone. This means that all CPT700 and later phones will need this module for voice control. Also, the voice recognition system will not work if you needed an adaptor cable to install the CPT7000 on your BMW having the older analog harness.

Finally, it seems that the Voice Recognition System can control more than the phone (although having a CPT7000 or > phone installed is required) and is about a $950 (american) option....
