I've noticed that every time I've opened the trunk on my 2001 540i, (while the car is off, key out of the ignition, alarm unarmed) the Nav CD seems to spin as if it was accessing a track or something.

Anyone know why it does that and what it's trying to do? It's certainly not a big deal -- I'm more curious than anything.

I'm pretty sure that the system is an OEM implementation of the Philips CARiN system.

In addition to preparing for CD changing, I presume that opening the trunk is equivalent to opening and door, bringing the car out of "standby" mode. I would guess that spinning up the nav CD is part of that.
