I am currently driving a 3 series (sold my 5 series to get the new convertible) but I think the phone is compatible with all BMWs. I got the phone ($495) and install kit ($345) mail order from Circle BMW. It is fully compatible with either the Nav system or MID display on the 5 series. Circle BMW's web site is http://www.circlebmw.com/parts/parts.html. They have them in stock. The phone is the standard Motorola StarTAC phone (model No. ST 7797)you would get for ATT service but with the special BMW software installed. The BMW model no. is 84110026228. I installed it myself and after a little aggravation it works great.
Where is Circle BMW? Is this phone fully compatible with the 5er.? I bought the ATT version of the StarTAC phone for the BMW. It is $495 from Circle BMW.
BMWNA responded to my email (Owner Connection at their website) and said the new phone (tri-mode) and versions for various Providers will be available February 2001. Mentioned was AT&T, Verison and Pacbell PCS as well.
I hope and pray, I have been waiting 7 months
