$1799.00 for the MS5000
$180 for the CD
$25 for the pro-fit bracket
$200 for the computer brackets and trunk trim panel.
If you don't mind tearing into the interior of your car then you can do the install yourself in about 4 - 8 hours. Otherwise, expect to pay a professional installer anywhere from $150 - $400.
If you decide to do it before I get a chance to post the install instructions let me know and I can send the wiring information to you.

I did the VDO MS5000 a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it. This is the same system as the new one in the 2001 5 series. It supports split screen and has a 16:9 aspect ratio.
The system is very accurate and has never steered me wrong. The only thing that I don't like about it is the display mounted off of the side of the center console (used a pro-fit mount). On the other hand the only other way to do aftermarket NAV is to replace the radio/MID with a full aftermarket system.
The other bonus of the VDO is that the computer is the same size as the BMW factory system. After a trip to the parts department and an outlay of $200 I have the nave computer mounted in the stock location... very cool...
I was also able to fully integrate it with the vehicle wiring harness so that the NAV instructions go over the stereo speakers.
If I ever get time and a digital camera I'll post pics and install instructions.

I need to know which is the best NAV system. I have a 97 540i w/o nav and would like to get one installed. I have heard mixed reviews about BMW's NAV that is not built into the dash. What about Alpine? ANy comments, suggestions would be appreciated.
