System is not different on new M5. Just the display has changed. I currently have the Voice recognition package on my 2/00 M5. Works great and saves a lot of hassle with dialing the cell while driving.

I note that the new M5 has the larger screen and I assume upgraded software. Simply saying module will work on all E39's after 01/00 implies that this module is intelligent enough to figure out what operating system your car is running. Do we believe that?
