Test-drove a 2001 540/6sp today .... (archive)

and it was unbelievable. There is no comparison
between the automatic and the 6sp. I went up to
25 in 1st gear and once in 2nd I push it right up
to 60 in no time. It feels like 5.0 sec rather than
the published 6.0 sec. Too bad the sales asked for
3K over MSRP, and I walked away. I will definitely
do a Euro delivery on 540/6sp from somewhere out
of CA. It would be nice if BMW develops a dynamic
sports suspension that automatically softens when
a pothole is encountered, 'cause the stiff suspension
does transmit everything from the road to the driver.

Now I wonder what the M5 feels like ....
