Since the original bracket serves to hold another bracket, there's no reason why drilling out and using a bolt wouldn't work. That along with the other three existing studs should hold the CD changer adequately.

The nuts provided are probably those kinds that prevent loosening out. If you look at the nut, either nylon is capped or the nut hole opening is elliptical shaped. IF your nuts don't look like so, or don't look like they're designed to prevent loosening out due to vibration, then there may be a problem w/ the stud thread.
