I have searched for two days trying to find information on water pumps for the 528i with no luck. I have 95K miles on my 1997 528i and have heard conflicting reports. One report says to replace the water pump before 100k miles and another report says in 1997 BMW started using stainless steel shafts on their water pumps so owners do not have to be as concerned about replacement as they did in the past. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this issue?

If your car is not leaking or loosing coolant rapidly don't worry about it. Just wait for the signs then you'll know if it has to be changed. Just replace your coolant every 3 years.
