In 1987-88, I lived in Solva, a small Welsh fishing village just north of Haverfordwest and south of St. Davids. We used to get fog so thick that you couldn't go more than 10 mph. Without rear fogs, you could come up on a car and not have enough time to avoid it at just 10 mph!

The rear fogs make a very big difference in terms of rear visibility in foul weather.

A couple times, visiting friends from the USA got pulled over by the cops for driving with their rear fogs on during clear weather. They had no idea what the cops were talking about and one of them even had the cop show him the lights. The other one never figured out what the cop was talking about until I explained it to him.
