Has anyone out there upgraded to the 2001 facelift headlights from an earlier E39 that ALREADY had Xenon (HID) headlmaps?

2nd question unrelated to the first one:

Has anyone upgraded their E39 from halogen to 2001 facelift headlights and installed the self leveling kit? I believe this is a device that attaches to the rear suspension. Was the car pre-wired for this or did you have to run a new harness? How difficult was this part of the installation?

I plan to convert my 2000 540i to the 2001 headlights and I already have factory HIDs. I also plan to convert my neighbor's 1998 540i to 2001 headlights, but his are only halogen and will need to be upgraded to HIDs. That's why I wanted to know about the self leveling. I understand that the additional parts required to activate self leveling are about $195.
