Take a look at how the doors on your E39 don't flow smoothly into the dash. It appears that there is a 2" or so mismatch between them. This is because the American E39s have a couple extra inches of padding designed to protect the unbelted driver and passenger from submarining under the dash.

Now look at the photo in my first post. The glovebox door is thin, like a normal car. All the lines flow into one another.

Check out the photo below. See how the lines flow together rather than mismatching:
