I'd say 530i is between C320 and E320 (m)... (archive)

Size-wise, you could probably put the C-Class in with the BMW 3's and the Audi A4, but price-wise and feature-wise, the C-Class competes with the BMW 5's and Audi A6's, too. MB has stated that this is their objective (helps them stay out of a direct price war, perhaps).

I prefered the looks of the MB C-Class, but I chose the 530i, due to its superior handling, primarily. I didn't think the MB handled like a tank, but it wasn't as well tuned for the driving experience. The slightly larger internal width of the 530i was important to me, too.
