3rd Brake Light (archive)

We just had our first glitch on our 2000 528ia-6800miles.
The 3rd brake light malfunction indicator went on.
Initially I thought the bulb was burned out, but it appears there is a loose connection, as the problem is intermittent.
Has any one else solved this problem on their own?
I'm trying to avoid a 2 hour layover at the dealership for something that may take 5 minutes to fix.
