I went with the 5-series over the 3 simply for (archive)

more room in the car. The 5 is more oriented towards a family than the 3. My wife and plan for a family someday and several long vacation/driving trips across the US so we felt the bigger car to be a little more suited for that purpose.

Not that you would much, but have you ever sat in a back seat of a 3-series? Pretty uncomfortable.
