I can't imagine driving across the country with my family in an E39.

I chose a pre-owned 540i over a 330xi for the same reason. More room. We have a baby, and the 5 seemed better suited for the family. However, after spending some time in it with my wife and baby, it still seems small. I can't recline the driver's seat as much as I would like because the infant carrier in the back seat touches it. Less fits in the trunk than I had initially thought, too. But, hey, small sacrifices for a car that is soooooo much fun to drive!
