I have a 2000 528i with sports package and 17" wheels. I'm thinking of putting 18's on, but I am worried about the car looking raised up. I know there will be a little less rubber, but will one half an inch make a difference? I don't want to pay to lower the car with new springs and the like.Thoughts and opinions are much appreciated.

It will not make your car any higher if you utilize the proper plus sizing, but it will make your car look "lifted" due to the gap between the tire and fender looking larger than the sidewall. You can get away with 1 size larger without lowering the car, but if you go two, you should lower the car. I went from 16" to 18" and it looks and drives great.
