I was told that the Split Screen you describe is not yet available in the North American market. Only in Europe. The '01 5 series brochure must have been prepared in a hurry, as there are lots of Euro-only pictures in it.

I've never seen it in person - as I said in my post, I saw it "in pictures". It was on one of the BMW sites - www.bmw.com. It was definately there - I hadn't thought of this ability of the 16x9 screen, and once I saw it on the website it really made me wish that I had that screen (I have the narrow one). I don't know if the picture was doctored or not.

Sounds from your post like it is in the US brochure?

I wonder if this will be added to US MY01+ cars through new CD-ROMs? I noticed that the Region 1 CD-ROM for the second half of 2000 seemed to have upgraded my MY99 nav system a little. I now sometimes get different intersection icons than I did before, and sometimes the verbal instructions are more elaborate than before (as compared to the 1999 CD's).
